About a month ago while I was in New York, I had the great opportunity to study with Victor Lewis. In my lesson he briefly went over the idea of displacing rudiments rhythmically in order to get different sounds. A couple days ago while I was warming up on the pad, I decided to try to think up an exercise to apply his concept. I ended up writing this paradiddle exercise.

Pretty logical and simple, the paradiddle basically moves up an 8th note in each section, which is played through 4 times each before starting the whole cycle again leading with the left hand. I designed it to be repeated continuously until the hands feel warm and ready to play. I also like practicing it in 16th notes, in which each section would be played in two bars rather than four.

Hope you dig this, drummers.
